## Why use this *free* tool?

Most sitemap tools only check that the XML is valid. This one audits what actually decides whether Google and AI crawlers trust your content - for free, entirely in your browser.

🌐

### Real *hreflang* Audit

Parses actual `xhtml:link` annotations per Google's localized-versions spec - checks return links, self-references, and ISO 639-1 code validity. Most tools only guess language from the URL path.

⚖️

### Compare vs *3 Competitors*

Load your sitemap plus up to 3 competitors and see content-cluster gaps, publishing velocity, and plugin fingerprints side by side - built for real competitive GEO research.

🎥

### Image / Video / *News*

Extracts real `image:loc`, `video:content_loc`, and `news:publication_date` extension data - flags missing required fields, expired videos, and stale news entries.

🔍

### Plugin *Fingerprinting*

Detects whether a sitemap was generated by Yoast SEO, RankMath, or WordPress core - useful for inferring a competitor's CMS setup during research.

## How it *works*

No account, no install - results in seconds, entirely client-side.

01

### Paste a Sitemap URL

Enter your sitemap.xml (or sitemap_index.xml) URL above. A server-side proxy fetches it to bypass CORS - your sitemap is never stored.

02

### Auto-Detect & Recurse

Detects XML, RSS, Atom, or plain-text format; if it's a sitemap index, every child sitemap is fetched automatically - up to 15 per site.

03

### Explore the GEO Score

Get a 0–100 GEO Score, freshness/hreflang/extensions breakdowns, and - in Compare mode - a content-gap report against your competitors.

## Why sitemap health *matters for GEO*

Your sitemap is the map AI crawlers use to decide what to read first - and how often to come back.

### What generic validators check

- Is the XML well-formed?

- Are there under 50,000 URLs?

- Do the <loc> tags resolve?

### What this tool checks

- Is content actually being updated - the #1 signal AI crawlers use to decide re-crawl priority

- Does hreflang have working return links, or will Google silently ignore it?

- Are image/video/news extensions complete enough to be eligible for those surfaces?

- How does your content architecture compare to a named competitor's, cluster by cluster?

## Frequently Asked *Questions*

Everything worth knowing before you paste your first sitemap URL.

Is this tool really free?

Yes - no account, no paywall, no limit on how many sitemaps you analyze. Everything runs in your browser; the server only proxies the fetch to bypass CORS restrictions.

Is my sitemap data stored anywhere?

No. The server-side fetch is a one-time proxy request - it is not logged or stored. All parsing, scoring, and rendering happen client-side in your browser and disappear when you close the tab.

What counts as a valid hreflang implementation?

Per Google's own documentation, each URL must list every language/region alternate including itself, every alternate must link back to the page that references it (return links), and codes must be ISO 639-1 (optionally with an ISO 3166-1 region, e.g. "en-GB") or "x-default". A region code alone, like "US", is not valid. This tool checks all of these automatically.

Why does my score not reward <priority> and <changefreq>?

Because Google has confirmed it ignores both fields for ranking purposes. This tool still surfaces them as a minor "IA hygiene" signal - useful for your own internal crawl-priority clarity - but doesn't inflate your score for having them.

How does Compare mode work?

Enter your sitemap URL plus up to 3 competitor sitemap URLs. Each is analyzed independently, then content clusters are aligned by directory to surface gaps - e.g. a competitor publishing 3× more in a topic cluster than you, or a cluster they cover that you don't have at all.

What sitemap formats are supported?

XML urlset and sitemapindex (including image, video, and news extensions), RSS 2.0, Atom 1.0, and plain-text sitemaps (one URL per line) - all formats Google itself accepts.

Can I upload a sitemap file instead of a URL?

Yes - click "Or upload / paste XML instead" above the fetch box. Upload and paste only support single-site analysis; Compare mode requires public URLs so competitor sitemaps can be fetched automatically.
